Ears

Bald spots
Many pigs have symetrical bald spots behind their ears. Some pigs don't have them at all, and some will be as big as the ears are. Providing the pattern is the same on each side and the skin is not dry or sore, this is quite normal and nothing to worry about!! If it looks sore or your piggy has other bald/ dry patches over its body, please see a vet.
Cleaning
Normally you will not need to do anything with your pig's ears. In a herd they usually clean each other's ears. When there is a build up of dirt or wax, it creates the conditions that mites thrive in so you may need to clean them. Gently warm some olive oil. Using cotton wool pads dip the pad in the warm oil, wipe off the excess and wipe the ear area from the inside out until they are clean. Wipe the ear dry afterwards.
Do not use qtips or anything else which you put inside the ear - a pig won't like having anything put in his ear and a shake of the head and when you are holding a cotton bud inside could cause considerable damage. If your pig is itching his ears a lot, or you can see a bigger build up of wax inside the ear, take him to a vet.
