| My first pair of pigs were two females called Sooty and Bubble - no pics of these two - I don't know if cameras had even been invented then. Next were Bubble (yes, again) and Squeak (very original eh?) who after a brief courtship produced Nibbles and Jeep. Nibbles stayed with me but Jeep went to a lovely new home with some friends of ours and returned for visits when his owners went on holiday. I had been instructed by my mum (for very good reasons) not to put Squeak together with either of the females but in my childish stupidity, thought that it would be nice to get a photo of Squeak with Nibbles. They were only together for a couple of minutes, but that is all it takes! I did wonder at the time what they were doing but when Nibbles grew paunchier and I was asked if I had broken the rule, I denied it - durr! Luckily Nibbles wasn’t too young to have babies which was a bonus amidst my stupidity although her having babies by her father was bad enough. I was forced to face facts on my return from school one day when my mum took me to see two new arrivals nestling by Nibbles. I continued to deny it even then, but was rumbled when my film was developed and the proof was there to see! Gah! Although the second lot of babies we had was by accident, the first was intended but I would no longer breed any of my pigs. Baby pigs are of course very sweet and it's lovely to watch them grow up. But I think there are too many piggers already living in rescues and shelters and we should look after those before we bring any more in to the world. I was hoping Patchwork and Squeak would live happily together but Patchwork was a feisty little article and wouldn’t leave Squeak alone so Patchwork was neutered and lived with the girls. Squeak was getting on a bit so was spared the operation and took pride of place in my bedroom and was showered with attention. His favourite trick was climbing the stairs which he began doing spontaneously. He trotted around to to a grand old age, happily outliving all the others. Next is Frank, a brief addition to my herd. Frank was a rescue pig who had a tough life and it's a shame I only knew her for such a short time, but she was much loved. Go to Frank's Page to read her story. And last but by no means least are my gorgeous little sausages from the last few years. Chas who sadly passed away in January 2003 from liver failure, super Ziggy who we lost following a respiratory infection in September 2003, and the gorgeous Tefal who died from cancer in January 2004. Also Fred who had to be put to sleep in November 2005 due to an inoperable tumour, and Bob who died very suddenly the same morning. Charlie was the last surviving 'Treen's Pig' and she passed away peacefully at the age of 7 in March 2007. Click on the names to visit their pages and see all their lovely photos. |
